Wittenberg Community Days returns in June

The carnival is back along with plenty of fun for the whole family this weekend, June 20-22, at Wittenberg Community Days. On June 20, the carnival rides go from 5-10 p.m. Among the rides will be the kiddie roller coaster, the Ferris wheel, the Flying Dutchman and the Tilt-A-Whirl. Food and refreshments are once again offered by American Legion Post 502 at the pavilion, and the ever popular deep fried cheese curds will be available at the iconic yellow trailer of the Wittenberg Lions Club all weekend long. From 7-11 p.m., Infer/Red brings their classic rock, alternative rock and grunge sound from the bandshell in Washington Park. The fun starts all over again June 21 with the carnival rides going from noon to 10 p.m. Vendors offering a variety of crafts will be set up and selling their wares from noon to 5 p.m. There are plenty of free fun activities for children, including face painting from 3-9 p.m. and then Balloon Guy will be back this year making fun balloon hats and animals from 4-8 p.m. New this year is the Kindschi Pedal Races for the 4- to 12-year-old crowd to pedal a tractor for prizes. This event starts at noon. WOW will once again provide free tours of the downtown murals from the comfort of a tractor pulled wagon. From 2-6 p.m. under the pavilion, Lovin’ Country will cover country and classic rock songs. Cougars take the bandshell stage from 7-11 p.m. rocking a playlist from classic to contemporary pop and rock. Fireworks will go off at dusk. The parade starts June 22 at noon following the route on Webb Street through downtown Wittenberg between College Avenue and Walker Street. Free WOW mural tours and face painting will be available from 1-4 p.m. New this year, the Wittenberg Area Historical Society will provide free horse-drawn wagon rides to the museum where you can see the treasures within and enjoy some free ice cream. From 1-5 p.m. Night Shift will perform from the bandshell. At 5 p.m., the Wittenberg Area Chamber of Commerce will hold the raffle drawing for the Polaris Ranger SP 570 UTV grand prize and cash prizes. For more information, go to the group’s Facebook page.
