Victor W. Ziemer

Victor W. “Vic” Ziemer, 86, of Shawano, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, Aug. 13, 2013, at the Evergreen Care Center in Shawano. Vic was born Jan. 9, 1927, at his grandparents’ farm in the town of Richmond, Shawano County. Vic is the son of the late Ernest and Margaret (Wilber) Ziemer. He attended the Shawano schools and then entered the United States Navy, where he served during World War II. Upon returning from service, Vic returned to Shawano, where he was employed as a meat cutter at the Shawano Cold Storage. On June 19, 1948, he was united in marriage to the former Delores Huntington at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Shawano until 1951 when they moved to Oshkosh. Vic took a job with Rockwell International Corporation, where he was known as “Chief.” He spent 30 years at Rockwell, retiring in 1981. Upon retirement, the couple returned to Shawano, where they owned and operated Ziemer’s Lone Pine Cottages on Shawano Lake. After the couple sold the cottages, Vic was employed at the town of Wescott landfill. Vic is a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Oshkosh and St. James Lutheran Church, Shawano. Vic enjoyed fishing, hunting and especially golfing with his grandchildren, who spent many summers with him at the resort on Shawano Lake. Vic is survived by his loving wife, Delores; two daughters Victoria Beck and Virginia Palkovich, both of Oshkosh; four grandchildren, Rodney (Stephanie) Beck, Wade (Jennifer) Foley, Ryan (Heather) Beck and Dana Albright, all of Oshkosh; 14 great-grandchildren, Molly Beck, Ellen Beck, Mitchell Beck, Thomas Beck, Jerald Beck, Robert Beck, Abby Beck, Evan Beck, Gabrielle Foley, Isabelle Foley, Alexander Beck, William Beck, Victoria Palkovich and Charlotte Albright. Vic is further survived by his sisters, Audrey Krause and Shirley Born, and one sister in-law, Alice Wilber. Vic was preceded in death by his brother, Elmer Wilber; a sister, Margaret “Kootchie” Norton; and a son-in-law, Robert E. Beck. Funeral services for Vic Ziemer will be held Friday, Aug. 16, at 12:30 p.m. at Schroeder-Mickelson Funeral Service of Shawano. Pastor Ron Raddatz will officiate. Interment, with military honors conducted by Shawano American Legion Post 117, will be at the Lake Drive Cemetery, town of Wescott. Relatives and friends may call at Schroeder-Mickelson Funeral Service on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers and plants, the family requests donations to the Wolf River Lutheran High School or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
