Club Notes: Shawano Area Writers
The Shawano Area Writers met Thursday, June 17, in a conference room at the Shawano County Library. Dennis Vickers, president, started the meeting with the reading of the minutes from the May 20 meeting from Secretary Barb King. Next, Treasurer John Mutter reported on the club’s finances. He began with the report on the student writing contest.

Field day looks at protecting water quality
On June 24, from 4:30-7:30 p.m., a field day will showcase how the practices utilized by local farmers are protecting local water quality and how others can help at home. Speakers will provide more details about the types of farming practices, their importance to soil health, and how homeowners can improve the soil health and decrease the run-off at their homes. The field day will start at Tauchen Harmony Valley, W2648 River Road, Bonduel.
FRESH Project mobile market opens later this month
The FRESH Project’s mobile market will again deliver fresh local produce throughout the area at a bargain price to the customer providing affordable, accessible, and healthy food to all. The mobile market is in its third year, operating from June 28 through Sept. 30.
Burgers and more helping woman’s club scholarship efforts
The Shawano Woman’s Club (SWC) is having a scholarship fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 5 at Qualheim’s True Value, 1345 E. Green Bay St., Shawano. Club members will be selling brats, burgers, hot dogs and soda. Due to COVID-19, the club was unable to host its annual fashion show in May to raise funds for local scholarships.
