The Oconto Area Humane Society recently changed its volunteer program to allow youth 15 and older an opportunity to volunteer without having a parent or guardian present.
Before starting as a volunteer, the teenagers are required to have an approved volunteer application on file that includes a parent’s signature. They must begin volunteering during morning cleaning hours so staff members can work with them to train them regarding appropriate procedures.
Volunteers may help with different tasks such as cleaning animal cages, walking dogs, socializing with the animals, landscaping and other tasks.
This would be a good opportunity for young people fulfilling a community service requirement for the National Honor Society or other community youth organization.
