Members of the community are invited to attend the Nicolet Resource Advisory Committee (RAC) project proposal meeting July 15 in the Forest County Courthouse. The meeting will start at 9 a.m. in the Board Room of the Forest County Courthouse, 200 E. Madison St., Crandon.
RAC invites community members to work with Forest Service managers in recommending projects on federal lands or projects that will benefit resources on federal lands using Title II funds. Title II funds under the reauthorized Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act are made available to the RACs by counties receiving federal funds based on the percentage of land in federal ownership, timber receipt payments and per capita income.
Nicolet RAC funds are made available for Florence, Forest and Oconto counties. Projects must be located on the Nicolet portion of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, or directly benefit national forest lands or resources. Project sponsors are encouraged to attend the meeting in case there are questions that need to be answered.
During the meeting, committee members will review and recommend project proposal submissions for Title II projects. Projects can include restoring and maintaining watersheds, maintaining or obliterating roads, trails or other infrastructure, controlling noxious and exotic weeds and re-establishing native species. Projects can also include improving soil productivity, restoring, maintaining and improving wildlife and fish habitat, and other improvements to forest ecosystem health. Projects must be located or directly benefit Forest Service lands.
The meeting agenda and other information about the RAC can be found at fsplaces.fs.fed.us/fsfiles/unit/wo/secure_rural_schools.nsf/RAC/Nicolet?OpenDocument. Individuals wishing to bring related matters to the committee’s attention may file written statements with the committee staff before or after the meeting.
