Oconto Falls FFA members attended the State FFA convention from June 9-12 in Madison.
On June 9, 10 Oconto Falls FFA members participated in the Day of Service in the Madison area. The students bagged more than 10,000 pounds of onions to be distributed in the Madison community.
Six middle school members participated in the Rally to Fight Hunger and helped package more than 40,000 meals of macaroni and cheese.
The state convention was officially kicked off with reflections led by the 2013-2014 state FFA officers focusing on this year’s theme: Ignite the Passion, Live with Purpose.
Hallie Kopczynski prepared for state office with an interview, group activity and impromptu activity.
On June 10, the Groovy Girls (Hallie Kopczynski, Mercedes Ondik, Danielle Bursa, Denisha Hurning, Jenna Langlay, Courtney Muenier, Haley Muenier, Jen Longsine and Veronica Hakes) put on a disco show for the state FFA talent competition.
Longsine performed a vocal solo, “Don’t Stop Believing,” and Ondik performed a vocal solo, “Hallelujah,” and was selected to perform on the main stage during the sixth session.
Ashley Baeten and Ally Magnin performed in the state FFA chorus and band, respectively.
Langlay and Hakes, as state delegates, helped select the Section 8 officer candidate.
At the second general session, members were recognized for receiving gold placings on their proficiency awards. Baeten, Langlay, Ondik, Magnin, Nathan Birr, Hallie Kopczynski, Connor Iverson and Ashley Keuken attended the sponsors’ award banquet, which recognized proficiency award winners. The evening included a performance by hypnotist Jim Wand.
On June 11, Ondik received the 3 Star Leader Award, Iverson received the National FFA WLC Scholarship and the agronomy team of Emily Birr, Nathan Birr, Iverson and Ondik received a trophy for winning the state contest.
During the fifth session, Hallie Kopczynski and Hanna Kopczynski received their State FFA Degree.
Hallie Kopczynski was elected Section 8 state FFA vice president.
