The Oconto Falls American Legion baseball team snapped a four-game losing skid, capturing its first North Division victory, 3-2, against Antigo on Saturday.
Hunter Magnin struck out seven in seven innings, allowing two earned runs to win the second game of the doubleheader. Magnin held Antigo scoreless until the seventh inning, allowing eight hits and no walks, to rebound from a 3-2 loss against Peshtigo on June 16.
Derek Zahn (2 for 3) posted Oconto Falls’ first run on a solo home run in the second inning. Zahn later singled in the top of the third inning to score leadoff hitter Colton Geise (2 for 3) and Dylan Woosman (1 for 3).
Oconto Falls lost the first game of the doubleheader 3-2 with runs scored by second baseman Sam Konitzer and Magnin, who played left field.
In Magnin’s loss to Peshtigo, he struck out 10 batters in seven innings, allowing two walks and five hits with all three runs unearned. Oconto Falls’ runs came in the first inning by shortstop Alex Johnson and right fielder Connor Sefcik.
In addition to one-run losses to Antigo and Peshtigo, Oconto Falls came up short, 6-5, against Menominee June 19. Matt Hanson walked nine Oconto Falls hitters in 5 1/3 innings.
Oconto Falls (3-4, 1-3 Fox River Valley North) will play at Oconto on Thursday, followed by a home game against White Lake on Friday.
