The law firm hired by the city to track down the heirs to the original Shawano Medical Center property has identified but not yet contacted them, according to city officials. As a result, the city’s consideration of proposals for future use of the property put forward by a citizen task force will likely have to wait until February at the earliest. The hospital at 309 N. Hillcrest Primary School has received $25,000 from the Mielke Family Foundation that will go toward a multi-purpose “sensory integration” room for its young students. The foundation is a fierce advocate of early childhood education, said Troy Edwards, Hillcrest principal.

Friends and colleagues are fondly remembering Shawano attorney Arnold Greenhill, who died Saturday at age 66, as a man of the people. Elsie Greenhill said her husband, who battled multiple myeloma (cancer of the bone marrow) for several years, loved Shawano. He was on the Shawano Area Community Foundation board and served 10 years on the board of trustees for Shawano Medical Center. “Shawano was very dear to his heart,“ she said.
