Bowler High School booster club hoping for impact

The Panther Pack Booster Club has been busy since it organized in the spring, and the group hopes to be even busier this winter. The club, organized to promote and support Bowler High School athletics, sponsored the football team’s opening night tailgate party and held a punt-catching competition during the home football games this season, raising more than $300. Alleged animal abuse at farm gets national attention
A video that surfaced this week purporting to show alleged mistreatment of animals at a Shawano County dairy farm has gained national attention, along with criticism over how authorities have responded to the incident. Students invited to compete in oratory contest
Shawano Community High School students have been invited by Elefson-Zeuske American Legion Post 117 to compete in the annual National High School Oratorical Contest. Mart Grams of the SCHS faculty will help coordinate the contest and coach the students. The subject in the Prepared Oration portion of the contest must be about some phase of the Constitution, emphasizing the duties and obligations of a citizen in the United States government.

Officials react to $10 drug bust criticism

School Notes
Gresham School Brenda Hoffman’s parenting class students received their baby simulators last week. “The babies are cute when they are quiet, but I have learned that I am not ready to become a parent for a long time,” River Otradovec said. “This was a great and educational experience.” On Thursday, the middle school boys had their first basketball games of the season against Bowler. Both Gresham teams won.

Clintonville Knights planning annual Thanksgiving dinner
The Msgr. Loerke Council No. 1922 of Knights of Columbus, with assistance from the community, will sponsor Clintonville’s 37th annual Thanksgiving dinner. The free dinner will be served beginning at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 27 at the Community Center, 30 S. Main St.

Woman loses part of leg due to diabetes
At the age of 52, Sandy Carlson, of Shawano, had a blood test during a physical so she could continue driving school bus for the Shawano School District. “I was feeling fine,” said Carlson, now 74. She was diagnosed with Type II diabetes, but with medication controlling the diabetes, Carlson could continue driving. Ten years ago she quit driving. A couple of years later her legs started to hurt.

When Teagan Monfils stopped during the WIAA Division 1 sectional cross-country meet to help a fallen runner two weeks ago, she ran afoul of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association rules and was disqualified. Shawano School District officials, however, wish all their students showed the caring and kindness that Monfils exhibited when she helped D.C.

Virginia Mary Oesterreich
Virginia Mary (Drexler) Oesterreich, 87, of the Township of Matteson, Waupaca County, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2014, at Pine Manor Healthcare Center, Embarrass. Virginia was born November 5, 1927, to the late Wenzel and Elizabeth (Sazama) Drexler in the town of Rolling, Langlade County, the youngest of four children. She had her First Communion and Confirmation at St. John’s Church, Antigo.
