City considering well maintenance agreement

With one of five Shawano water wells shut down for rehab, the city is considering entering into an annual contract for the repair of its closed well and continued maintenance on all of them. The Shawano Field Committee on Monday recommended contracting with Utility Service Group at a cost of $10,000 per well; a total of $50,000 per year. The recommendation now goes to the Finance Committee for consideration and then to the Common Council. Eddie S

Sacred Heart Catholic School While discussing Lent and the things we can do to help others, the children in Corrine Salerno’s 3K/4K class decided they would like to share some food with those who are in need. When asked what their favorite food is, the answers included chili, macaroni and cheese, and pizza. During a recent food drive, the 3K/4K students won the prize of a pizza party for donating the most food items.

Powwow helps melt away winter blues
Hundreds of people converged at the Menominee Casino Resort in Keshena on Saturday to soothe the winter blues and kick off the powwow season. The fifth annual Winter Welcome Pow Wow was conceived by the late William Pyawasit to bring together Menominee Indian tribal members and others. George W. Frank
George W. Frank, 97, passed away Feb. 28, 2015. He was born Feb. 18, 1918, in the town of Underhill to the late William and Hattie (Smith) Frank. George married Marie Dicke on Dec. 26, 1945. He served his country during World War II, spending three years in the Pacific region. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Hillside to present Easter musical
Hillside Assembly of God Church in Gillett will present the Easter musical “More Than Just a Man” at 7:30 p.m. Good Friday, April 3. The public is also invited to a dress rehearsal at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 28. Registration opens for gun banquet
The Kelly Lake Sportsman’s Club will hold its annual gun banquet Monday, March 23, at Romy’s Holiday Inn, 9600 County Road G, Suring (Kelly Lake). Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed by a chicken and tips dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets are available for $75 per person, plus $25 for a spouse or guest. The $75 ticket includes dinner and a chance to win one of 17 table guns and other prizes.

Library Notes
Gillett Public Library The new Community Center facility, purchased by the Gillett Pubic Library in May, is getting closer to completion. The library purchased the BMO Harris bank building next door through donations (no taxpayer money was used), and it is being converted into meeting room space for the community. There will be one large gathering place and three smaller meeting rooms once the project is done.
