George “Jim” Byng Jr., 89, Abrams, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016, at Manorcare East, Green Bay. George was born on Feb. 23, 1926, in Abrams to the late George and Mary (Fox) Byng Sr. George married Nancy Rickel on June 23, 1953. She preceded him in death on Oct. 25, 2011. George was a charter member of the Abrams Fire Department and the Oconto County D.A.V.

Beverly Jean Ehlinger, 84, of Suring, passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 28, 2016. She was born on March 29, 1931, to the late Edward and Violet (Parker) Swenty. Beverly Swenty married Don D. Ehlinger on Dec. 27, 1952, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spruce. Bev was an elementary school teacher for the Pulaski School District for about 30 years until she retired.

About a half-dozen teams of horses and their drivers gathered Saturday to participate in a horse-powered logging event in Oconto Falls. Dick and Mary Lemmen hosted a Frontier Farmers Association of Northeast Wisconsin logging event on their property on Pipgrass Road in the town of Oconto Falls. The event consisted of drivers and teams hauling felled birch trees off the property next to the Lemmens’ farm.
