The Shawano School Board received some backlash March 23 to its decision four weeks earlier to reduce staff to balance next year’s budget, hearing concerns that music programs and other things could be hurt as a result.
Equal and expanded access to the farming community will expand the horizons of the industry into the next generation, according to a mix of speakers attending a Farmers and Friends listening session March 23 at the Shawano Civic Center.
With few props and only a black curtain as a backdrop, Shawano Community High School drama students are learning to put more into their acting, facial expressions and tone of voice than normal.
Students will perform “Among Friends and Clutter” by Lindsay Price on April 9-11 in the high school auditorium.
Jody and Cindy Dixon, owners of Dixon’s Torchlite (formerly Anello’s Torch Lite) at 1276 E. Green Bay St., Shawano, have sold the business to brothers Domenico and Salvatore Badalamento, owners of Luigi’s in Shawano. The sale was effective March 27. Dixon’s began in February 2022 after purchasing Anello’s Torch Lite, which had operated for 41 years.
Dozens of children ages 3 or younger hurry toward hundreds of Easter eggs March 28 at St. James Lutheran School. The egg hunts, which included separate ones for ages 4-6 and 7-9, were the centerpiece of a variety of children’s activities held at the school. Each hunt also included two golden eggs, which could be turned in for prizes.
The list of grievances against President Donald Trump and his administration is growing in the minds of protesters who gathered March 28 on the front lawn of the Shawano County Courthouse.
Part of a nationwide movement, the No Kings Rally was sponsored by the Shawano-Menominee Counties Democratic Party.
“Where do you begin? The list of grievances is so great,” said speaker Jeff Gillis, of the Town of Richmond.
Gov. Tony Evers has signed an $11.9 million contract to improve state Highway 29, between County Road J and County Road M, in the towns of Morris, Seneca, Herman and Richmond.
Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $6.6 million contract to improve 1.08 miles of State Highway 22 from Finnegan Lake Road to the Highway 22/32 intersection in the city of Gillett.
Construction begins April 7 and finishes in the fall. Highway 22 will close April 7 for the duration of construction.
