Bonduel seeks $750K annually above state cap
The Bonduel School Board approved the framework July 15 to ask voters for an override of the state-mandated revenue caps through two referendum questions in November’s election. The first question will be initially familiar to longtime residents, as the Bonduel School District will be seeking a technology override but will be attaching safety and security technology to the mix. In years past, the district asked for $150,000 annually.

DNR sets 2024 deer season framework and harvest goals
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) recetnly announced the deer harvest quotas and framework for the 2024 Wisconsin deer hunting season. The statewide antlerless quota for the 2024 season is 272,837 deer, with 245,245 total bonus antlerless harvest authorizations available for purchase across the state.
Corn silking reported at 17% complete
Wisconsin had 4.5 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending July 14, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Drier weather for most of the state resulted in the second highest days suitable for the growing season thus far, allowing fieldwork to progress at a faster pace.
Earl W. Schmidt
Earl W. Schmidt, 88, of Birnamwood, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at his home accompanied by his loyal and loving wife, Judy, his children, his grandchildren and the beauty of the surrounding woods he called his home for many, many years. Earl was born on March 11, 1936, in Birnamwood, the son of Fred and Erma (Kufahl) Schmidt.

Lloyd “Lee” Anthony Ebert, age 82, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2024, in Shawano. He was born on Jan. 2, 1942, to the late Lloyd and Rosella (White) Ebert in Green Bay, and grew up in Briarton, Wisconsin. Lee attended Bonduel High School and St. Norbert College. Jennifer L. Onesti
Jennifer L. Onesti, 40, of Shawano, formerly of Mattoon, passed away after a six-year battle with Alzheimer’s, at Azura Memory Care, Manitowoc, under the care of Heartland Hospice. Jennifer was born on July 14, 1983, in Wausau, the daughter of Allen and Lisa (Long) Onesti. Jennifer worked as a volunteer at Sacred Heart School in Shawano serving meals and distributing papers to the classrooms. She also volunteered at the Shawano Fire Department.

Sunday, July 14 Hofa Park 5, Nichols 0 The Hofa Park Panthers defeated the Nichols Nitros 5-0. Heinrich Walder got the win in the mound, throwing eight innings and allowing two hits. Mason Dorn and Brinton Anderson each had two hits in the contest. It was a well-played game with neither team committing an error. Hofa Park will travel to Nichols on July 20 for a makeup game and then host the Pulaski Reds on July 21.
