To the editor: We thought that you could verify facts with two sources of information that said the same thing. Hearing something on the Walter Cronkite CBS Evening News and then reading it in the local newspaper was proof this was the truth. Today, it is far more difficult to distinguish the truth from lies. No matter how savvy we think we are, we can be tricked.

UW-Whitewater Lucas te Plate from Shawano, who is studying accounting at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, was selected to serve on the Segregated University Fee Allocation Committee (SUFAC). Te Plate is the College of Business and Economics representative. The committee is made up of student representatives from across campus that allocate fees to student organizations and campus departments.
St. John performing Christmas cantata
The ecumenical choir at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Gillett will present its annual Christmas cantata during the weekends before and after Christmas Day. “Gloria … the Wonders of His Love” will be presented at 7 p.m. Dec. 27 and 2 p.m. Dec. 28 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 101 W. Main St., Gillett. Admission is free, but a freewill offering will be accepted.
Larry L. Jeske
The Honorable Larry L. Jeske, 84, Gillett, died Sunday morning, Dec. 15, 2024, with his son by his side. The only child of Victor and Emma (Padinger) Jeske was born Aug. 1, 1940, in Wausau. A man of great intellect and dedication, Larry graduated from Shawano High School before earning his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his law degree from Marquette University.
