Former Oconto County finance director Lisa Sherman was recognized Feb. 20 during the monthly meeting of the county board.
Herman retired Feb. 3 after 35 years with the county, including several years as Oconto County’s top fiscal manager. County Board Chairman Al Sleeter presented her with a certificate of appreciation for her years of service.
“The friendships and the shared successes we have experienced together have made my career not just fulfilling but also truly rewarding,” Sherman told her colleagues and the board. “Your dedication and hard work are commendable, and I have been fortunate to work alongside all of you. I am very proud of all that we have accomplished together.”
Sherman said she appreciated the opportunities for professional growth and development that the county afforded her over the years.
“Oconto County has not only allowed me to contribute my skills and expertise but has also challenged and inspired me to continue learning and growing. The experience and knowledge I have gained here have been invaluable and have shaped me both professionally and personally,” she said. “It has been a privilege to be a part of this team, and I will cherish the memory and relationships that I have built here forever.”
Sherman’s retirement letter was read to supervisors at the county board’s regular monthly meeting Nov. 21. In addition to her work in the finance department, she was tabbed to serve as interim county administrator earlier this year after former administrator Erik Pritzl departed and before Richard Heath arrived at the end of April.
Betty Bickel, who previously served as deputy director and operations manager of the county health and human services (HHS) department, was introduced as the new county finance director at the board’s Jan. 23 meeting.
Bickel’s successor at HHS will be Brandon Dahl, who comes to the county after a stint as highway finance manager for Marinette County.
