Bohm celebrated for his service to community

Dennis Bohm has packed a lot of volunteering into his 85 years. From willingly joining the Marine Corps one month after graduating from high school to a Sunday School teacher to driving veterans to their medical appointments and covering more than a quarter of a million miles, Bohm has offered himself up to others throughout his life. Never one to volunteer for his own benefit, he was named the Shawano Country Chamber of Commerce 2024 Distinguish

Shawano’s professional community is in good hands with the likes of Ashley Steenbock. Steenbock is the Shawano Area Young Professionals (saYPro) 2024 Young Professional of the Year. Steenbock started her career working in diagnostic imaging at ThedaCare Shawano.

Wittenberg skating rink open
The skating rink behind the Wittenberg Community Center is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. The ice shack is also open. Visitors can bring their own skates or rent a pair for free. Anyone who wants to donate skates can bring them to the community center entryway. The rink was prepared by the Wittenberg Fire Department.

DeBauch scores 48 points in Gillett win
Jan. 13 Gillett 68, Coleman 58 Jesse DeBauch scored 48 points, and Gillett slowly pulled away in the second half to defeat Coleman 68-58. DeBauch was the only Tiger to score in double digits. He also led his teammates with 21 rebounds. Jed Herzog had another 10.

Menominee Nation thumps Port Edwards
Jan. 13 Menominee Nation 81, Port Edwards 27 Urijih Reevis scored 23 points and nine teammates also scored as Menominee Nation tripled up on Port Edwards 81-27. Aaliyah Corn scored 10 points for the Eagles. Also contributing were Mylee Dixon, Keira Nacotee, Darcie Spruce, Cecilia Grignon, Lena Waukau, Taylesia Pamonicutt, Natalie Peters and Charlotte Fish. Wausau led the team with 11 rebounds.

Superintendent search underway
The Oconto Falls School Board has hired consulting firm McPherson and Jacobson LLC to guide its search for a new superintendent. Dean Hess announced in November that he plans to retire at the end of this school year, when he will have completed 10 years as the school district’s top administrator. The school district said in a Jan. 14 news release that McPherson and Jacobson has completed the first two phases of the superintendent search process.

Farm Life From a Farm Wife
Selling our livestock in May 2016, we’re going on nine years without milking cows. While that very first day had me standing in the middle of my farm kitchen in tears wondering what on earth people do at four o’clock in the afternoon, I’ve since moved quite cheerily in the direction of choosing what I want to do when. The big thing I don’t miss about dairying is dealing with and working in the cold.
