Ronald “Ron” Henry Heuser, 79, Green Bay, died peacefully Wednesday morning, Dec. 4, 2013, at a Green Bay hospital. The son of the late Ralph and Margaruite (Santy) Heuser was born June 2, 1934, in Lena, was a 1952 graduate of Pulaski High School and taught elementary education at various area schools. On Aug. 23, 1958, he married Lillian Timm.

Marion J. Vaughn, 81, of Crivitz, passed away Sunday at MeadowLands retirement community in Oconto Falls. Marion was born to the late Leonard and Hazel (White) Scheels on Jan. 29, 1932, in Mercer. She married Kenneth Sr. in Mercer. The couple resided in Crivitz, where she was employed by the Crivitz School District as an elementary school teacher until retirement.

To the editor: I am a loyal Packers fan, but after Sunday’s pregame performance, I have my doubts. Just before our national anthem, they had a moment of silence for Nelson Mandela. I know he was a great man and did a lot for the equality of South Africa, but there was never a mention of our armed forces and civilians who died on Dec. 7, 1941.

To the editor: Am I the only one to notice that since the buyout by Journal Broadcasting of the NBC affiliate, that the remarkable amount of redundant and repetitive commercials is in itself repetitive and redundant ? Can’t we all make a Butch’s pizza from memory? How many lawyers do we need? In other markets, Me- TV is not polluted with endless local commercials just to make a buck.

To the editor: Wonder how those snowmobile trails magically appear each year just in time for riding fun? Snowmobile club volunteers spend countless hours working with landowners, putting up signs, brushing trails and getting grooming equipment ready. There are over 20,000 miles of trails across Wisconsin. Trails are maintained by nearly 600 clubs, with local club efforts coordinated by the Association of Wisconsin Snowmobile Clubs.

Perhaps not all things are relative, but the theory of relativity or a version of it was a cause for some speculation as this observer took leave of the path around the Falls this past weekend.

It’s 5:15 on a cold morning in January, and Dad and I are heading for the barn, working through the foot of new snow that has fallen overnight and drifted in deep banks against the front door of the barn. The snow is something we’ll have to deal with after we do the morning chores. Nothing comes before the morning chores! “Chores!” The word had a special definition to farm kids like me.

The Student Services Department of Oconto Falls High School will sponsor a financial aid meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, in the Performing Arts Center of the school. Attendees will learn about aid and scholarships for students planning to attend a college or technical school after graduation.

The Oconto Falls High School girls basketball team won its season opener 48-37 Friday against nonconference foe Rhinelander in Oconto Falls. After falling behind 13-10 in the first quarter, the Panthers outscored Rhinelander 20-10 in the second period and 11-4 in the third. McKenna Larsen, the team’s 5-foot-7 senior guard, scored 14 points to lead Oconto Falls.
