Harvey C. Bartz, 84, of Shawano, passed away peacefully following a brief illness on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at the Shawano Medical Center with his family by his side. Harvey was born Nov. 23, 1929, in the town of Waukechon, a son of the late Gust and Martha (Wissmann) Bartz. Harvey attended Shawano High School, graduating in 1948.

“The Art of the Quilter: III,” the fifth annual quilt show presented by the Walls of Wittenberg, opens Saturday in the WOWSpace, 114 Vinal St., Wittenberg. We had fun making a jack in the box for the letter j, cutting and reviewing shapes. We made an alligator for the letter a and had to cut out the sharp teeth in a zig-zag pattern.

A semi rolled over on state Highway 29 east of Shawano early Thursday, closing down both lanes of eastbound traffic for about four hours.
