Christopher J. “CJ” Wold, 31, Oconto Falls, died Monday afternoon, Aug. 4, 2014, as the result of being struck by lightning the previous evening. He was born Nov. 22, 1982, in La Crosse to Christopher L. and Katherine (Schoen) Wold.

Kathleen Beth (White) Olson passed away Aug. 8, 2014. Family is the thing that Kathy lived for. Kathleen White was born June 16, 1932, to Herbert Edgar and Laura Susan (Snyder) White in Orofino, Idaho. She was raised in Weippe, Idaho, and lost her dear mother at a young age. When Kathy was 16 years old, she met the love of her life, John Andrew Olson, of Gillett. Mr. Olson had been recruited to help deliver a saw mill to Weippe, Idaho.

Richard H. “Dick” Jenquine, 66, Cleveland, passed away unexpectedly on Friday evening, Aug. 1, 2014, at his home. He was born on July 15, 1948, in Marinette to Harold and Esther (VandenBush) Jenquine. Dick worked for the Kohler Company for 41 years until his retirement in 2013. He took great pride in the appearance of his property, always taking the extra time to keep it looking good.

The Nicolet Oconto Retired Teachers Association in July honored Carol Burns for 15-plus years of membership in Wisconsin Retired Educators Association and NORTA. Burns was born and raised on a farm in the Berlin area. She went to a one-room country school until eighth grade and graduated from Berlin High School.

Tracey Rae Vandeveer, 52, Oconto Falls, died on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, of complications to MS. She was born in Green Bay on Oct. 17, 1961, to the late Carol (Meidl) Vandeveer and Ronald Meidl. During her childhood, Vandeveer lived in De Pere. She resided in Ashwaubenon for much of her life before moving to Oconto Falls in 2010. Prior to her disability retirement, Tracey worked in customer service for Georgia-Pacific.

The descendants of Henry Siebert and Clara Culver Siebert came together for their 16th family reunion Saturday, Aug. 2, at Zippel Park in Gillett.

In a tradition that has spanned 30 years, safety and crime prevention came together Aug. 5 at National Night Out in Gillett.

William “Bill” Edward Volk passed away on July 26, 2014. He was born in Oconto Falls on Dec. 20, 1943, and was the only child of Hazel (Larsen) Volk and Clair “Red” Volk. Raised on his grandparents’ farm in the Oconto Falls area, Bill attended Elm Lawn Grade School until his family moved to Milwaukee. During his teenage years he went to several schools in the Milwaukee area. Inducted into the U.S.

Oconto County will reopen the Machickanee Forest Shooting Range for several days to give hunters time to sight in their guns before the deer hunting season. The Forest, Parks and Recreation Committee on Wednesday decided to reopen the range on a limited basis and continue its efforts to secure up to $150,000 in grant funding to reorient the range to make it safer and quieter. The dates and times of the temporary reopening will be decided Sept.
