Raising livestock for the Shawano County Fair takes months of preparation and dedication. Approximately 150 young people will display their pigs, lambs and cattle at this year’s junior livestock show and auction.

A Leopolis man who went on a weekend crime spree and evaded authorities for nearly three weeks made an initial court appearance Friday after being captured the night before. Calvin K. Ossmann, 26, was found Thursday in a town of Richmond barn where he had apparently been hiding since eluding authorities in a high-speed chase and escaping on foot Aug. 3. The Shawano County Sheriff’s Department received a call shortly after 6 p.m.

It was a rough start to the season opener for the Eagles. The Menominee Indian High School football team fell behind 14-0 early against Milwaukee HOPE Christian Thursday in Keshena, rallied to tie the game at 14 midway through the third quarter and gave up a late touchdown in a 20-14 loss. “We were on our heels pretty much from the beginning of the game,” Menominee Indian coach Chris Clache said.

The Clintonville Veterans Memorial Committee plans to add two sections to the memorial that was dedicated in October 2009. The memorial is located in Midway Park on South Main Street. The Common Council in January approved the addition of two wall sections to the memorial. A section with space for 220 names will be added to each side of the wall.

The Clintonville School District will hold a budget hearing at 6:30 p.m. Monday and its annual meeting at 6:45 p.m. Monday at Clintonville Middle School, 255 N. Main St. The tax levy is projected to decrease from last year’s $6.22 million to $6.20 million this year.
