Trial set in fatal UTV accident

There is a chance a former Waukesha man charged in a fatal 2022 UTV accident might face amended charges when his case goes to trial later this month. Scot A. Haas, 55, who now lives in The Villages, Florida, was charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle and homicide by negligent operation of a motor vehicle, in connection with the incident that claimed the life of David Weinmann, 56, of West Chicago, Illinois.

Hawks open 2-1 at Rhinelander
The Shawano softball team opened the 2025 campaign with a 2-1 mark at the Danny Mac Softball Classic in the Hodag Dome in Rhinelander. On March 28, the Hawks defeated Edgar 15-5. Shawano opened with four runs in the first inning and another six in the second. Edgar scored a run in the bottom of the second and trailed 10-1. The Hawks added five runs in the top of the third.

Patricia Herning
Patricia Herning of Oconto Falls passed away on March 14, 2025, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay. She was born Oct. 3, 1952, to Donald and Irene Schlise. Patricia grew up in Stone Bank, on a dairy farm with her two older brothers and younger sister. She learned the meaning of taking pride in her work no matter how small the task. In 1972, she married John (Jack) Herning and moved to Sobieski and later to Oconto Falls.

Lois Mae Malchow
It is with both sadness and celebration that we announce the passing of Lois Mae Malchow, beloved mother, grandmother and friend, who entered eternal rest on March 28, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on May 19, 1938, in Milwaukee, Lois lived a life rich with love, creativity and community. Lois grew up in Antigo, before embarking on a beautiful journey when she married Kenneth Malchow on July 21, 1957.

Robert B. Metzler
Robert B. Metzler, 97, of Green Bay, formerly of Oconto Falls, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025, at Woodside Senior Community. Born on July 8, 1927, in Oconto Falls to Anton and Desirea Metzler, Bob spent his early years in his hometown, where he attended St. Anthony Catholic Grade School before graduating from Oconto Falls High School with the class of 1945.

Dickinson sentenced to time served
A Portage man who was granted a retrial after serving two years of a sentence for repeated sexual assault of the same child was sentenced to time served March 25. Joshua L. Dickinson, 47, Portage, pleaded no contest Feb. 24 to an amended charge of causing mental harm to a child rather than risk being convicted a second time at a trial that had been scheduled for Jan. 23. Bahr back in Shawano County court system
A career criminal from Cecil with a number of convictions from Shawano, Oconto and Brown counties has finally returned to Shawano County’s court system after almost a year navigating through some Brown County court cases. Tracy Bahr, 41, appeared March 25 via Zoom before Shawano-Menominee County Circuit Court Judge William Kussel Jr.
