BOYS BASKETBALL Bonduel 78 Manawa 49 Bonduel defeated visiting Manawa behind three double-digit scorers Friday. Connor Rosin scored a game-high 22 points. Two of his seven field goals were from behind the 3-point line. Peyton Czarapata had 13 points.
Hawks lose at Luxemburg-Casco
Shawano Community High School was unbeaten on the road entering Friday night’s game at Luxemburg-Casco. The Spartans put a stop to that, defeating Shawano 55-47 in Bay Conference action. “I think we’re more comfortable on the road, to be honest,” Shawano coach Chris Kellett said. “Playing with the adversity from the crowd, it kind of feeds into how hard they play. I thought the kids couldn’t have played any harder tonight.
Packers look to get back on track
A late-season loss already knocked Green Bay off-stride, and the hungry Packers know they can’t afford to stumble again against the lowly Tampa Bay Buccaneers. “It’s important to focus on what you’re trying to accomplish each and every week as a football team, and always see the big picture. Sixth-grader wins Bonduel bee
A sixth-grader won the annual Bonduel Middle School geography bee Friday. Alex Owen earned the opportunity to compete for a spot in the state bee by outlasting seventh-grader Jackson Krause in the final round. “Alex is a really nice student and he seems to be a really bright kid, and it seems like he has a love of learning things,” Principal Mark Margelofsky said. “It feels pretty good to win over the older kids,” Owen said.
Some gray wolves returning to endangered list
A federal judge on Friday threw out an Obama administration decision to remove gray wolves in the western Great Lakes region from the endangered species list — a decision that will ban further wolf hunting and trapping in three states. State highway reopens in Keshena
State Highway 47-55 and County Road VV in downtown Keshena was reopened to traffic early Friday afternoon. The state Department of Transportation closed the highway Tuesday, a day after the Menominee Indian tribe and Menominee County issued an emergency disaster declaration due to flooding from the Wolf River. Carole M. Alft
Carole M. Alft, 75, of rural Tigerton, passed away on Thursday morning, Dec. 18, 2014, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Eau Claire, after a lingering illness. The former Carole Mae Brady was born on April 16, 1939, at Birnamwood Hospital, the daughter of Melvin and Margaret (Nero) Brady. She was united in marriage on June 7, 1958, to Keith R. Alft at St. John Lutheran Church, Tigerton.
