It was an up-and-down night for the local drivers defending their turf against the incoming World of Outlaws Late Model Series regulars Tuesday at Shawano Speedway. There is a new World of Outlaws Late Model Series champion at the Shawano Speedway. Georgia resident Shane Clanton rolled into victory lane after a close race that went down to the wire. Only three seconds separated the top three finishers in the 50-lap feature. Earl Pearson Jr. of Florida finished second, followed by Jimmy Mars of Wisconsin in third. Authorities were expected to resume their search early Thursday for a man who went missing on Shawano Lake after diving in to rescue his son. The 10-year-old boy made it to safety, but rescue crews spent most of the day Wednesday trying to find his father. The search, which the sheriff’s department is now calling a recovery effort, was suspended for the night about 8:30 Wednesday. The incident occurred shortly before 11 a.m.

A 15-year-old girl was taken to secure detention July 10 after a disturbance between the girl and her mother on Indianwood Drive. An Oconto Falls man, 43, was arrested for disorderly conduct following a dispute with a neighbor on Oakland Avenue at 1:30 a.m. July 11. A pit bull mix was running loose on Green Bay Avenue about 9:30 p.m. July 11 when it was picked up by officers.

Prevea Health announced the launch of a hospitalist program at HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital. It includes seven new physicians, referred to as hospitalists, available to serve hospitalized patients. A hospitalist is a provider whose sole responsibility is to take care of patients in the hospital. The providers do not work in a clinic setting or have outpatient office hours like most primary care providers.

As one phase of the state Highway 22 street project winds down, another is set to begin. About 20 people attended an informational meeting Friday morning at Oconto Falls City Hall to learn about reconstruction plans for the downtown area of Main Street. The anticipated start date for this phase of the project is Monday, Aug. 10, with an anticipated end date of Friday, Nov. 6.
