Development key for young Hawks soccer team

Losing nine starters to graduation after one season could be a concern for most coaches. After losing 14 seniors in 2013 and 11 more graduates last season, Shawano Community High School boys soccer coach Bob Croschere is confident in his team’s ability to bounce back. Back to School Night helps calm first-day nerves

New conference, similar result
The Oconto Falls High School football team opened its North Eastern Conference season Friday night against Luxemburg-Casco, an old Bay Conference rival. Even with a move to the new conference, nothing has changed when it comes to the Spartans’ dominance. L-C drubbed the Panthers 55-0 to close last season.

Bonduel plans in place for school year
The Bonduel School District will begin classes for the 2015-16 school year Sept. 1 for high school freshmen and students in grades 4K through sixth. The remaining students will report for classes Sept. 2. Starting and ending times at district schools will be as follows: 8:07 a.m. to 3:04 p.m. at Bonduel Elementary School, 8:03 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. at Bonduel Middle School and 8:03 a.m. to 3:20 p.m.

Nonprofit Profile
Beginning Aug. 31, something different can be checked out at the Shawano City-County Library: Wilton cake pans. The pans come in many different shapes. “It was fun picking out things and trying to think what people might like,” library assistant Wendy Rosenow said.

Barn swallows
As we go about our business in the barn, we have a lot of loud company, each adding their own distinct sound to the mix. Along with the cows, calves, a family of cats and our pair of pigs, Thelma and Lou in their outside pen, we have barn swallows. These graceful birds with their deeply forked tails dart hither and yon almost the entire length of our barn.

Volunteer Profile
Melanie Miller is the program manager and a volunteer for Junior Achievement, a nonprofit organization. A Marion native, she graduated from Marion High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and a few years later got her master’s from Viterbo University in La Crosse.
