James L. “Lurch” Dickson, 53, of Shawano, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2015, at 7:22 p.m. at St. Luke’s Hospital in Milwaukee, following a six-month journey of recovery from kidney surgery. His loving wife was at his side. Lurch was born on Aug. 3, 1962, in Chicago, son of Judith (Hoffman) Anker and the late Abraham Lincoln Dickson. Lurch attended school in Shawano.

Charles Don Marshman, born Sept. 9, 1927, passed away Sept. 26, 2015. He is survived by wife, Joyce, of 32 years, and children, Linda and Bob Sipiorski, Lori and Dan McGinty, Lew and Stacey Drefahl, Lynette and Arron Schulke. Grandchildren: Reese, Trace, Samuel, Bryce, Brystal and Paige. Sons: Russel and Tom and families. Services pending. He was employed at Proctor and Gamble for 32 years.

Lyle George Gehm, 71, of Bonduel, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2015, in Shawano. Lyle was born in Shawano on Jan. 1, 1944, to the late George and Emma (Klosterman) Gehm. On Feb. 6, 1965, Lyle was united in marriage to Carol Ann Niles at St. Martin Catholic Church in Cecil. He farmed until 1991, then worked at Sturm Foods in Manawa until retiring in 2011. He was a volunteer and fire chief for the Town of Hartland Fire Department.

Marlo P. Egdorf, 88, of Marion, passed away Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015, at his home. The Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home & Crematory, Marion, is assisting his family.

Shawano Police Department Sept. 28 Police logged 27 incidents, including the following: Suspicious — Police responded to a suspicious person complaint in the 100 block of River Pine Drive. Arrest — A 21-year-old man was taken into custody on a probation and parole hold at the New Era House, 105 E.

Nestled in the heart of Shawano County, the Gresham area is also becoming the heart of the annual Miles of Art festival. Four of the seven venues for this weekend’s event, now in its fifth year, are in the Gresham area. There are also two sites in Shawano and another in Wittenberg. About 40 artists will participate in the celebration, which runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

It could cost as much as $1 million, by some estimates, to replace the terminal building at the airport jointly operated by the city and county. Whenever the Shawano Community High School football team needed to make a play during its homecoming game Saturday afternoon, junior quarterback Jack Hanauer relied on wide receivers Adam Bartz and Dylan Sumnicht. They ran slants, out routes and double moves all over the opposing defense, racking up an even 168 yards apiece in the Hawks’ 33-26 victory over Green Bay West.
