Gresham moving toward new high school

Eight years after breaking away from the Shawano School District, Gresham school officials are contemplating a $6 million building program to modernize the district’s facilities. Voters could be asked in April to approve building a new high school and replacing the old high school with new administrative headquarters. Santa helps out Stempa family
Family members of the late Derek Stempa learned how big his family really was over the weekend. More than 250 people attended a benefit party and silent auction Saturday night, according to Lori Mathwich, owner of Valhalla Hillside Inn near Tilleda, where the benefit was held. Among the attendees were Shawano County Sheriff Adam Bieber and most of Stempa’s friends and colleagues with the county highway department and U.S. Army.

Packers run game back on track after 28-7 win over Cowboys
In the span of two games, Eddie Lacy went from coach Mike McCarthy's doghouse for a curfew violation to being a focal point again for the Green Bay Packers. High School Highlights
BOYS BASKETBALL Gresham 89 Marion 29 Neal Cerveny set a school record with 48 points Friday night on 17-of-21 shooting from the field and 8 for 8 from the free-throw line. The previous record of 47 points was set a season ago by Christian Haffner. Drew Haffner scored 10 points and tallied five assists for the Wildcats (5-0, 3-0 Central Wisconsin Conference-10) in the victory over Marion (1-3, 0-3 CWC-10).

Shawano comeback falters in final minutes
When nothing seemed to be going in favor of the Shawano Community High School boys basketball team, some unlikely players stepped up in big ways. Senior center Zeke Gueths had another strong game, including 13 second-half points and 19 overall, but junior Austin Kohl and sophomore Cole Nelson hit the biggest shots of the night, cutting a once-21-point lead down to just six with four minutes remaining in the second half. Enlightenment comes with some glitches
To light or not to light, that is the question. Whether or not it is better for the outside Christmas lights, which I painstakingly put up over the past two weekends, to come on at dusk with their appointed timer has been source of consternation to me the past few nights. The ones I put up that first weekend worked like clockwork — on at dusk, off six hours later.

Pope Francis has declared a Year of Mercy, which began on Dec. 8 and will end on Nov. 20. At Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano, the parish began the year with a 24-hour adoration of the Blessed Sacrament beginning at 7 p.m. Monday. “He wants the Holy Year to be for all believers a true moment of encounter with the mercy of God,” Sacred Heart Pastor Luke Ferris said. Holy years are usually celebrated every 25 to 50 years.

Volunteer Profile
Til Dancker is a greeter at ThedaCare Medical Center-Shawano. She was born in Fond du Lac and graduated from Oakfield High School in 1950. Dancker worked at a shoe factory in Watertown for a year and then moved to Milwaukee, where she was a machine operator for Briggs & Stratton from 1953 to 1979.

Big Red
Presently we are raising a red Angus we dubbed Big Red. He is aptly named, for even when he first popped out, he was already quite big. Big and furry and sweet-natured. He was placed all by himself in a corner pen at the time of his birth, for we had all our regular pens filled with older calves. The baby calves have to be separated from the other older calves as sometimes they can be mean to one another.
