Landau retires from city, county jobs
Paula Landau woke up May 1 and knew the day was going to be different. For the first time in 35 years, she wasn’t going to work. She retired April 30 as part-time coordinator of the Shawano Civic Center (a city of Shawano job) and part-time Meals on Wheels coordinator (a Shawano County job). “I’m hoping now, if it’s nice out, to sit outside and enjoy the mornings with my husband (Steven),” she said.
Green Lake Park scheduled to open May 24
It won’t be long and a popular park that was vacant for a decade will open for a second season. The Mountain Historical Society maintains Green Lake Park, located just south of Mountain on state highways 32 and 64. The society will reopen the park May 24, in time for the first busy holiday weekend of the tourist season. Visitors who checked out the park last year will see some major improvements, according to society President Brenda Carey-Mielke
Fire chief cautions against burning when conditions are dry
Last week’s rain brought some relief from fire danger, but April was extremely dry, Gillett Fire Chief Kurt Hicks told the city council during its monthly meeting May 1. “My assistant chief and myself did a bit of cruising around town on our own, just kind of keeping tabs on things, and we did go to a number of homes where they had fires going,” Hicks said.

I have not read the first book, but I gleaned that Aria Brandt has established herself in the field of art restoration. She has a keen eye for detail that aids in her work but also puts her in danger.
State milk production up slightly from a year ago
Milk production in Wisconsin during March totaled 2.78 billion pounds, up slightly from the previous March according to the latest USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – Milk Production report. The average number of milk cows during March, at 1.27 million head, was unchanged from the previous month but down 5,000 from March 2024.
