Warren G. Griepentrog, 65, of Tigerton, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2015, at a courageous battle with cancer. Warren Glenn Griepentrog was born on Oct. 30, 1950, in Wausau to George and Judy (McFarlane) Griepentrog. He was raised in Tigerton and attended Tigerton High School, Class of 1968. Warren went on to Northcentral Technical College, where he earned a degree in electronics.

Mary A. Zimmerman, 73, of the town of Belle Plaine, Shawano County, passed away unexpectedly on Monday afternoon, Jan. 11, 201, at the Theda Care Medical Center in Shawano. Mary was born on May 15, 1942, in Milwaukee, the daughter of the late Frank and Ann (Stancar) Brezonick. She grew up in Elm Grove and graduated from Brookfield Central High School.

A Menominee Indian Reservation resident has agreed to plead guilty next month in federal court in connection with coercing a minor to engage in prostitution for nearly five years. According to the 14-page plea agreement, Brian L. Kelly hired a 14-year-old girl in 2010 to sweep up his barber shop for a few dollars. Shortly after, the girl, identified only as S.Z., began working for Kelly, they engaged in sexual intercourse. S.Z.

City officials Wednesday approved a letter of agreement with Shawano’s police union that extends the existing contract but allows a move to 12-hour work days. City Administrator Brian Knapp told the Common Council that the current work schedule was a problem for many of the officers. “It has been a source of frustration and concern by many of the department staff,” he said.

Students in the Shawano School District who took Wisconsin’s standardized tests in 2015 came close to the state average in all categories except high school mathematics, according to results released this week. More than 1,000 Shawano students took the Badger and Dynamic Learning Maps exams, with 49 percent showing proficiency in English and 44.3 percent getting a passing score for math.
