Playing cards is an activity that can help pass time in the winter months. Gary Thyes has started the Senior Cribbage and Sheepshead League. “It gives older people something to do,” Thyes said. “I call it senior league, but anybody over 21 can play.” A group of card players get together on Monday and Thursday from 1-4 p.m. at Brothers Pub on the west shore of Shawano Lake.

Donald L. Kerstner
Donald L. Kerstner, 82, of Wausau, died on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Donald was born on March 10, 1933, in Clintonville to the late Erick and Mildred (Olmsted) Kerstner. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Korean War. Donald married Doris Strelow in Bowler in 1954. In his working years, Donald’s expertise was in the realm of windows, both as draftsman and in sales.

Public invited to grant distribution celebration in Clintonville
Grants will be presented to several local organizations when the Clintonville Area Foundation holds its fourth annual grant distribution celebration Feb. 19. “This is a win-win for all involved,” said Nancy Ignacio, chairwoman of the foundation’s advisory board.

3 arrested in Angelica drug raid
Three Bonduel men were arrested Thursday afternoon after authorities raided an alleged drug operation in the town of Angelica. The Shawano County Sheriff’s Department and other law enforcement agencies executed a search warrant at a residence in Angelica after an ongoing, multi-jurisdictional investigation revealed probable cause that drug activity was occurring, the sheriff’s department said in a news release. County farm sale gets another look
Supporters and opponents of selling Shawano County’s old county farm property are planning to meet face to face before sending the matter to the County Board for a final decision. At issue is a proposal to sell an estimated 150-acre portion of the town of Belle Plaine property that housed the county’s poor farm and asylum starting in the early 1900s.
