Local school district superintendents are worried about rumblings in the Wisconsin Legislature about tighter restrictions on any referenda the districts might ask for in the future, especially when it comes to keeping the doors open. State voters have been asked 210 times in the last 15 months to approve operating referenda, which permit districts to exceed their revenue limit caps to fund day-to-day operations.

A job as a school secretary in her hometown of Gillett wasn’t exactly Michelle Hansen’s cup of tea. Mark Roy Dittmann, 74, passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, in Shawano. Mark was born Nov. 26, 1950, in Shawano, to the late Oscar and Dorothy (Bahrke) Dittmann. On March 6, 2004, he was united in marriage to Lana Ann Laabs at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. Mark loved classic cars, especially his 1929 Model T, 1955 Handyman Wagon and 1992 Chevy truck. He was a member of Thornton Trail Riders and the Minnesota Street Rod Association.

Marcia Diane Wagner passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025, at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay. She was born Sept. 30, 1947, in Oconto Falls to the late Rudolph “Rudy” and Marion Wagner of Gillett. She was a 1965 graduate of Gillett High School.
