Books and brats sold at library

It can be hungry work perusing books, so the Friends of the Shawano County Library served up brats for visitors to the library June 3. Besides the books, there were audiobooks, CDs and rummage — which even included a replica of the Mona Lisa.

Eland outhits, outscores Hatley in BABA North Division contest

Eland picked up a 10-2 win over Hatley on June 7 in a full slate of Badger Amateur Baseball Association games.

Eland had 17 hits in the Engineers’ win over the Braves in Hatley.

Nick Barnes led Eland with four hits, while Charlie Woida had three; Jeremy Jensen, Blade Niewiadomski and Ryan Richter added two each.

Dorn helps lead Hofa Park to Dairyland win over Nichols

Mason Dorn hit a pair of home runs and had five hits June 7 in Hofa Park’s 7-6 win over Nichols in a matchup of Dairyland League baseball teams.

Ayden Tomlinson’s RBI single broke a 6-6 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning and helped the Panthers top the Nitros in Hofa Park.

AJ, Troy Springborn win features at Shawano Speedway

Wausau’s Marcus Yarie won the IMCA modifieds 20-lap feature race at the Shawano Speedway on June 6.

Yarie started fifth and worked his way to the front, finishing in front of Clintonville’s Lucas Lamberies and Shawano’s Andrews Yaeger.

Shawano’s Jason Yaeger started on the pole and finished ninth.

Mike Schmidt of Shawano won the first heat, and Lamberies won the second heat.

Red Raiders soccer team wins regional title

Pulaski’s soccer team jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead and went on win the regional title with a 3-1 win over Ashwaubenon on June 6.

The No.3 seed Red Raiders will travel to take on the No. 2 Cedarburg team June 11.

Oconto Falls’ Bursa wins state long jump title

Keaton Dauk from Pulaski won the Division 1 300-meter hurdles and Oconto Falls’ Brady Bursa captured gold in the Division 2 long jump at the WIAA State Track and Field Championships on June 5-6 at the Veterans Memorial Stadium Complex on the campus of UW-La Crosse.

It marked the 130th year for the boys events and 55th year for the girls.

Dauk won the hurdles in 37.91 seconds. Bursa’s winning jump was 23 feet 2 inches.

Slow-moving motorists and getting cut off by others are two major pet peeves of drivers, but they probably don’t compare to the sight of orange barrels and detour signs.

For anyone driving around Shawano County the past several weeks, it’s enough to make you want to stay home.
