Oconto Falls 79, Sturgeon Bay 27

Oconto Falls’ girls basketball team advanced to the WIAA regional semifinals with a 79-27 win over Sturgeon Bay.

The sixth-seeded Panthers, 11-14 overall, will play Feb. 27 at No. 2 seed Little Chute, which had a bye in the first round.

Thirty wins over the past two seasons have helped put the Marion/Tigerton girls basketball team on the map.

Although the Thundercatz’ season ended Feb. 24 with a 62-38 loss to Iola-Scandinavia in the opening round of the WIAA state tournament, coach Ben Livingood is convinced his team is headed in the right direction.

An attic fire at a house in Bonduel is believed to have been caused by an electrical issue, according to a Bonduel Fire Department official.

Bonduel Fire Chief Kevin Lynch said the Feb. 20 fire started in the attic.

At about 5:40 a.m., the fire department was called to a North Cecil Street home. Initial information reported a loud pop followed by smoke filling the residence.

An Oct. 29 accident in the Town of Chase has been reclassified as a fatal crash after new information about the crash’s aftermath.

According to an amended Oconto County Sheriff’s Department report, the department learned Feb. 19 that the driver passed away two days after the crash, which occurred at 12:09 p.m. Oct. 29 on Yurek Road near St. Joseph Court.

• Skylar Leemichael Allman, 18, Marinette, pleaded no contest Feb. 16 to substantial battery intending bodily harm. Judge Katherine Sloma withheld sentencing and placed him on three years of probation with conditions.
