Packers stun Chiefs to get back to .500 on season

In a building with Taylor Swift, Simone Biles, Tony Shalhoub and Bobby Portis in attendance, it was Jordan Love who was the biggest star as the Green Bay Packers took down the Kansas City Chiefs 27-19 at Lambeau Field on Dec. 3. In a stand-alone game on Sunday Night Football, Love put together another career performance, as the fourth-year quarterback completed 25-of-36 passes for 267 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions.

Bridezilla is murdered; Max hunts down killer
When I selected Karen Sue Walker’s “Murder in White Lace,” I knew it would follow the same old format found in cozy mysteries, but I was ready for something quick and light. Max Walters returned to her hometown of Crystal Shores, California, almost a year ago. She’d moved to New York to work in one of the big fashion design houses with hopes of working her way up to designer, but so far she’d been relegated to the pattern shop.

Gillett crash victim identified
The victim of a fatal traffic crash Nov. 25 has been identified as Connor Johnson, 22, of Gillett. The Oconto County Sheriff’s Office said Johnson’s pickup truck was traveling east on Highway 22 when it entered the south ditch and overturned near Old U Road in the Town of Gillett about 3:15 a.m. Johnson was ejected and died at the scene from his injuries. A memorial service was held Dec. 2.

‘Clock Church’ plans Christmas cantata
A Christmas cantata titled “Hope Awakes in Bethlehem” is scheduled for four performances next week by an ecumenical choir at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 101 W. Main Street, Gillett. The cantata, a musical performance with narration, will be performed at 7 p.m. Dec. 14-16 and 2 p.m. Dec. 17.

Shawano hockey team loses to Waupaca
Tyson Lyons and Kaiden Thornborrow were busy in the net combining for 30 saves but letting seven pucks get through as Shawano/Bonduel lost 7-2 to Waupaca in boys hockey Nov. 28. The Comets didn’t wait long to strike, scoring at 2:40 in the first period.

Legacy of St. Nicholas continues today
Celebrated by Christians worldwide, the Feast of Saint Nicholas is observed annually on Dec. 6. The date was strategically placed on the Church calendar to fall in the season of Advent, a four-week vigil of preparation for the arrival of the Christ child. Twin Brother’s Supper Club opening in Oconto
The Oconto Area Chamber of Commerce has announce the Twin Brother’s Supper Club, 553 Jefferson St., Oconto, will open Dec. 13. Owned by brothers Humberto and Santiago Morales, this new supper club will be serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner Wednesday through Sunday. Breakfast and lunch will be served from 7 a.m.

Ada Deer, Sylvia Wilber, Shirley Daly, and countless others became involved with the movement to restore their tribe’s federal trust status because their parents and community asked them to do so.

Minimizing money in politics faces steep climb
If you agree that corporations should not have the same rights as people, and money is not protected speech, this amendment is for you. The “We the People” Amendment would specify that the rights laid out in the U.S. Constitution are for individual human beings and not for groups of people, such as corporations and labor unions.

Hunting season not finished with gun deer hunt
This is for all the lonely hunters, thinkin’ that deer have passed them by. One of my favorite bands of the 1970s, and maybe of all time, is America. Simple name, simple-but-beautiful tunes. I had their “Greatest Hits” album and then the cassette.
