Two motorcycle accidents in Shawano County that seriously injured three people over the weekend were still under investigation Tuesday, according to the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department.
The first accident took place just before 6:30 p.m. Friday at the intersection of U.S. Highway 45 at state Highway 52 in the town of Aniwa. Authorities say the motorcycle stopped at a stop sign and pulled out to turn northbound when it was hit by a pickup.
The driver of the motorcycle — a 27-year-old Plover man — suffered severe injuries and was flown to Aspirus Wausau Hospital, according to authorities. The passenger of the motorcycle — a 27-year-old Necedah woman — was also injured and was transported via ambulance to Langlade Memorial Hospital in Antigo.
The pickup was driven by a 65-year-old Antigo man who was not injured.
The second accident took place about 2:20 a.m. Sunday, when a vehicle pulled out in front of a motorcycle at state Highway 22 and Cedar Lane in Wescott.
The motorcycle driver — a 53-year-old De Pere man — attempted to stop to avoid striking the vehicle. The motorcycle then crashed, throwing the man and his passenger, a 36-year-old Shawano woman. The motorcycle driver was flown via Theda Star to Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah. The woman was not injured.
The vehicle that pulled out in front of the motorcycle left the scene.
Authorities were still looking for the vehicle Tuesday and were checking on several vehicles reported to have been in the area at the time.
