United Way of Shawano County on Thursday announced the appointment of Linda Olson as executive director.
Prior to accepting this position, Olson worked for Shawano County University of Wisconsin-Extension for 24 years and retired from that position in 2012. She has resided in Shawano County for 25 years and has been active in family and community development programs as the UW-Extension family living educator.
“Through the years of teaching in the family living area, I have come to appreciate the hard working nonprofit organizations that reach out to Shawano County families,” Olson said.
United Way of Shawano County helps families to have a better quality of life through the 19 nonprofits that receive funding.
“I’ve seen how these agencies help families and I look forward to working through United Way to continue this investment in our community,” Olson said
Olson replaces Linda Lanphear, who joined United Way of Shawano County in January. Prior to Lanphear’s arrival, the county’s United Way effort has been directed by the volunteers on the board of directors.
The organization’s annual fundraising goal last year was $75,000.
“Having Linda Olson join us is a tremendous boost for our organization” said Ron Scanlan, United Way president. “Linda has been an advocate for those needing assistance in our area for years and will continue the United Way mission with knowledge of the agencies and causes we support.”
United Way supports the following organizations: Safe Haven Domestic Abuse Center, Lutheran Counseling and Family Services, Girl Scouts of Northwestern Great Lakes, Boy Scouts of America, Junior Achievement of the Wolf River Region, Wolf River School to Work, Shawano Literacy Council, Kids Klub, Bridge the Gap Inc., Navarino Nature Center, Special Olympics Shawano All Stars, Birnamwood Community Cupboard, Shawano Area Food Pantry and Resource Center, American Red Cross of the Northeast WI Region, Shawano Area Food Center, Red River Riders Therapeutic Horseback Riding, N.E.W. Curative Workshop Rehabilitation Center, Alzheimer’s Association-Greater Wisconsin Chapter and the nIc Foundation.
