The speed limit will be reduced on a section of County Road G north of Gresham if an ordinance passes the County Board later this month.
The Shawano County Public Safety Committee on Wednesday unanimously recommended the speed limit be reduced from 55 mph to 45 for the section about 600 feet north of Spur Road to state Highway 47.
The Highway and Parks Committee also unanimously recommended the change for the 1½-mile section.
Supervisor Bert Huntington, who lives near the area, said the section in question is a hazard at the current speed limit.
The area includes part of Middle Village, a nursing home and a day care center, he said.
“That’s a pretty busy stretch of highway,” Huntington said.
The intersection of County Road G and Highway 47 is slated to be moved in 2014 so it is more of a T intersection.
Currently, drivers turning right onto the state highway have limited visibility, and drivers on Highway 47 who want to turn left have to make a turn of almost 135 degrees to get onto County Road G.
“It’s a pretty highly developed area,” Huntington said. “There’s several roads coming off the side there, and cars get whipping along pretty good. That is a very dangerous intersection.”
The resolution will go to the County Board on Oct. 23.
