Dorothy Anne Mohr

Dorothy Anne Mohr, of Shawano, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, on her 99th birthday. Born in Dodge County, she was the oldest of four children born to the late Maxamillion and Regina (Rake) Maier. She was raised on the family farm just south of Beaver Dam. After graduating from high school at the age of 16, she attended a county normal school and began her teaching career at the age of 17. Dorothy taught for more than 38 years before retiring in 1980. She received a service award for her many years of teaching, the Carol award from the Jaycettes for outstanding leadership, the volunteer of the year award from SCARTA, in 1994 received the Mother of the Year award from the Council of Catholic Women and was honored with the Living Treasure Award. In retirement, Dorothy remained busy as a full-time baby-sitter for beloved grandchildren. She was also active with the St. Vincent De Paul Society, the SVDP store in Green Bay, the Council of Catholic Women and the Evergreen Nursing Home. She also found time to play cards, playing with eight different card clubs. Dorothy had done an outstanding job in her home, church and community. She instilled in her children the value of hard work and a good education by setting an amazing example. She certainly was a living treasure. Dorothy is survived by two daughters, Paula (Mike) Wegner, of Shawano, and Vicki (Dean) Martin, of St. Paul, Minn.; five grandchildren, Jessica Wegner, of Chicago, Ryan Wegner, of Shawano, Dustin (Peta) Lametti, of San Diego, Demetri Lametti, of Minneapolis, Del (fiancé, Bryana) Martin, of Green Bay; a great-grandson, Asuka; a sister-in-law, Verna Maier; and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by: her parents; two sisters, Martha Huggett and Elsie Szolwinski, and a brother, Lawrence Maier. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano with the Rev. Luke Ferris officiating. Entombment will be in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday form 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
