Shawano gets No. 3 seed in softball tourney

The Shawano Community High School softball team earned a No. 3 seed in Division 2, Bonduel earned a No. 2 seed in Division 3 and Tigerton earned a No. 1 seed in Division 4 as the WIAA released softball tournament brackets this week. The seeds were determined by coaches at seeding meetings held throughout the state Wednesday. The Hawks will open the tournament Thursday against No. 6 Seymour. “We’re glad to have a home playoff game,” Shawano coach Kevin Isaacson said. The Hawks swept Seymour in a doubleheader earlier this season, but Isaacson expects to see a better Thunder team Thursday. If Shawano advances, it will face either No. 7 Clintonville or No. 2 Green Bay Notre Dame, which the Hawks beat in last year’s regional championship game. Those two teams will play in Green Bay on Thursday. Also in Division 2, No. 6 Wittenberg-Birnamwood will open at No. 3 Antigo. Division 3 Bonduel earned the No. 2 seed in its bracket, and will host No. 7 Wabeno/Laona on Thursday. No. 5 Menominee Indian travels to face No. 4 Crandon for the right to face No. 1 Oconto on May 27. Division 4 The Tigers earned the top seed in its bracket and a bye. Tigerton will host on May 27 the winner of Thursday’s game between No. 5 White Lake and No. 4 Newman Catholic. No. 2 Marion will face No. 7 Gresham on Thursday. No. 6 Bowler travels to face No. 3 Manawa. The winners of those games will face each other May 27.
