The Bonduel High School boys track and field team won its first Central Wisconsin Conference-8 championship in 26 years Saturday in Stevens Point.
The Wittenberg-Birnamwood girls, meanwhile, won their eighth straight title.
“The boys had a great day,” Bonduel coach James Watry said. “We knew we had a balanced team going in there. It ended up working out pretty well. We won every open race on the boys side, from the 200 to 3,200, and the 4x400.”
Hunter Berry won championships in the 1,600-meter and 3,200 runs. Isaac Palmer won the 400 and 800, and ran a leg of the winning 4x400 relay team with Zach Zernicke, Trebor Rueckert and Caleb Dowling. Dowling also won the 200.
“Really, things couldn’t have gone a whole lot better for us,” Watry said.
Wittenberg-Birnamwood took firsts in five events, including two relays. Brian Szutkowski won the 100 dash and Aaron Monnot won the triple jump.
The Witt-Birn girls won four events.
Micah Nier won the high jump and took second in the triple jump. She was also third in the 300 hurdles. Mikayla King won the 800. The Chargers also won the 4x400 and 4x100 relays.
For fourth-place Bonduel, Mallory Mews took second in the 3,200, Emily Sorenson was second in the long jump and Amber Heller placed second in the shot put.
