Hawks fall to Preble in softball
The Shawano Community High School softball team squandered a 4-1 lead in a 5-4 loss to Green Bay Preble in nine innings Tuesday at Memorial Field.
The Hawks (7-13, 6-9 Bay Conference) led 4-1, but Preble (18-2, 14-0 Fox River Classic Conference) tied the game in the fifth. Kaylen Krueger’s ninth-inning home run ended the game.
Courtney Baumann allowed 11 hits and struck out three for Shawano. Baumann, Saige Henning and Courtney Ainsworth each had two hits.
Shawano girls win at L-C
The Shawano Community High School girls soccer team beat Luxemburg-Casco 5-0 on the road Tuesday.
Megan Klitzke had two goals to lead the Hawks (9-6, 4-2 Bay Conference). Sarah Dickman, Morgan Klitzke and Louisa Keenan each had a goal and an assist. Shania O’Kimosh also had an assist.
Shawano goalie Carlie Hinnifeld had four saves.
Bonduel beats Gillett in six
The Bonduel High School baseball team beat Gillett 10-0 in six innings in nonconference play Tuesday in Gillett.
Trevor Pederson threw a 1-hitter for the Bears (11-4, 9-3 Central Wisconsin Conference-8). He struck out 12 batters and walked one.
Hunter VanderLinden was 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs. Kyle Fischer and Jake Luepke each had two hits.
Bonduel girls beat Manawa
The Bonduel High School softball team beat Manawa 7-1 in a Central Wisconsin Conference-8 game Tuesday in Manawa.
Jennifer Dowden earned the win for the Bears, allowing three hits, issuing four walks and striking out five in seven innings.
Dowden and Kaylee Rynish were both 3 for 5. Rynish had two RBIs.
The Bears (7-8, 6-7 CWC-8) also finished a game against Manawa (1-11, 1-11) from April 28 on Tuesday. Bonduel lost 6-5.
Menominee Indian beats Wildcats
The Menominee Indian High School baseball team got three runs in the sixth inning to edge Gresham 3-1 in a Central Wisconsin Conference-10 game Tuesday in Gresham.
Richard Corn held Gresham (8-7, 8-7 CWC-10) to just three hits to get the win for Menominee Indian (11-4, 10-4). He struck out six, walked none and only allowed the Wildcats one run. Dallas Madosh went 3 for 3 with a double, and Michael Pecore had a pair of hits.
Christian Haffner took the loss for Gresham. He pitched five innings, walked three, struck out one and allowed three runs on seven hits.
Eagles top Gresham in softball
The Menominee Indian High School softball team beat Gresham 12-6 in a Central Wisconsin Conference-10 game Tuesday in Gresham.
Taylor Mahkimetas had three hits, including two home runs, and four RBIs to lead Menominee Indian (4-10, 4-10 CWC-10). She also picked up the win pitching, striking out 11 batters.
Taylor Hoffman took the loss for Gresham (0-7, 0-7). She allowed 12 runs on 10 hits, walked six and struck out eight.
Wolf River Lutheran third at Shiocton
The Wolf River Lutheran boys track and field team took third at a meet Saturday in Shiocton.
Wolf River Lutheran scored 52 points, getting second-place finishes from Taylor Timm (1,600-meter run), Andrew Schmidt (triple jump) and its 4x400 relay team.
Manawa (138) won the meet.
Hawks sweep two from Marinette
The Shawano Community High School baseball team beat Marinette twice in a doubleheader Saturday in Marinette.
Chase Henning went 3 for 3 in the 4-1 first-game victory. Grant Wainio had two hits, including a double. Cody Urban was 2 for 3. Clint Dallas earned the win for Shawano (6-11, 6-7 Bay Conference). He struck out five, walked none and allowed one unearned run in five hits.
In the second game, a 4-1 win, Taylor Prey earned the win, allowing just two hits in seven innings of work. He struck out seven and walked one.
Tasa Grignon had a two-RBI single to lead Shawano’s hitters.
Wildcats, Tri-County split doubleheader
The Gresham Community High School baseball team split a doubleheader with Tri-County Saturday in Plainfield.
The Wildcats (8-6, 8-6 Central Wisconsin Conference-10) won the first game 11-6 thanks to an eight-run third inning and 12 hits, including a triple by Derek Bowman and a double by Christian Haffner, who earned the win pitching.
In the second game, Gresham managed to break a 3-3 tie in the top of the eighth inning, but Tri-County (7-7, 7-7 CWC-10) responded with two runs to win 5-4.
Scott Cerveny was 2 for 4 for Gresham with a double and an RBI. He took the loss pitching.
Gresham/Bowler 2nd at CWC-10 meet
The Gresham/Bowler high school boys track and field team took second, Menominee Indian was seventh, Marion eighth and Tigerton ninth at the Central Wisconsin Conference-10 meet Saturday in Rosholt.
The Gresham/Bowler girls tied with Marion for fourth place. Tigerton was sixth, and Menominee Indian was eighth.
Menominee Indian sprinter Gordon James won the 100 and 200 meter dashes.
Gresham/Bowler’s Austin Olsen won the 110 and 300 hurdles. Drew Payne won the long and triple jumps.
Westphal, Johnson second at conference
Ross Westphal was second in the shot put, and Allison Johnson was second in the high jump and the 800-meter run to lead Clintonville at Saturday’s Eastern Valley Conference meet at Little Chute High School.
Westphal threw 46-5 in the shot put. Johnson went 4-10 in the high jump and finished the 800 in 2 minutes, 25.96 seconds. Chrissy Betz finished third in the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.60.
The Clintonville boys team finished ninth. The girls were eighth.
