United Way funding requests due Aug. 1

The United Way of Shawano County is accepting grant proposals for the 2014-15 funding year. Proposals are due Aug. 1. The United Way provides support to organizations that focus on education, financial literacy, and improving the health of individuals and families. Agencies or groups seeking funds must show proof of the organization’s tax exempt status under 501c(3) with the IRS and present a plan to the use the funds. Organizations also will have to include mission statements, financial statements, list of board members, copy of form 990 (if required to file) and expected program results. Funds distributed to the nonprofit groups are raised through contributions of individuals and businesses. Payroll deductions are a popular way to contribute a little bit at a time. In 2014, 17 agencies will receive $48,000 from United Way of Shawano County. Request for proposal packets are available at the United Way office, 115 E. 5th St., Shawano, and online at www.shawanocountyunitedway.org.
