Rita Miriam Connahvichnah

Rita Miriam Connahvichnah, 65, of Keshena, passed away Monday, July 14, 2014. Born on Feb. 20, 1949, in Keshena, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Louise (Mahkimetas) Peterson. On July 3, 1970, Rita was united in marriage to Roderick Connahvichnah in Chicago. The couple started a family and lived in the Chicago area for 16 years before moving to Keshena. Rita worked as an aide in the special education department for the Menominee Indian School District for 25 years before retiring earlier this year. She enjoyed playing Bingo and slots whenever she had the chance. Rita was a wonderful woman with a great sense of humor, and she loved nothing more than spending time with her family. Rita is survived by her husband, Roderick Connahvichnah Sr.; her children, Wayne (Carol Madosh) Connahvichnah, of Neopit, Rod (Maria) Connahvichnah Jr., of Shawano, Sosaeh (Colleen Waukechon) Connahvichnah, of Keshena, Louise (Jerry) Waukau, of Keshena, Chode Olsen, of Shawano; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; her brothers, Norman (Helen) Peterson, of Keshena, Roy (Linda) Peterson Jr., of Keshena; her sisters, Lucille Surprise, of Green Bay, Annette LaTender, of Neopit, and Amber (Romy) Johnson, of South Branch. She is further survived by an uncle, Marvin Kaquatosh, of Chicago, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Rita was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Charlie Peterson; and two sisters, Evelyn Peterson and Alice Newton. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2014, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Keshena with the Rev. David McElroy, O. Praem, officiating. Visitation will be held at the Connahvichnah residence, N353 Pine Meadows Road, in Keshena on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, from 7 p.m. until the time of services on Saturday.
