Galen D. “Shorty” Dobbs, 71, of Shawano, passed away Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, at his home. Born on Aug. 27, 1942, in Shawano, he was the son of the late Louis E. and Rose (Wilber) Dobbs.
On February 15, 1997, Shorty was united in marriage to Nancy Kriefall, and was a very loving husband. Shorty was an avid trapper, hunter, fisher, jokester, prankster, pool shooter, Styrofoam sculpture extraordinaire, painter (artist), family patriarch and historian. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Shorty is survived by his loving wife, Nancy, of Shawano; his daughter, Tracy (Matthew) Hardyman, of Red Wing, Minnesota; his son, Andrew Dobbs, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; his grandchildren, Alexander, Madelyn and Jacob; his siblings, Beverly (Tony) Fernandez, of Shawano, Cathy (Pete) O’Kimosh, of Shawano, and Tim (Maryanne) Dobbs, of Keshena. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Lois Thompson.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with the Rev. Michael Kahl officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014, from 2-6 p.m. and again from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday. Burial will be in the Lake Drive Cemetery.
