Grandma’s day out

With the month of August drawing to a close, it was time for a grandma day. They have changed greatly over the years, as the grandkids are growing up and branching out on their own. Even with the three that attend high school yet, one was working, so he couldn’t go. That made it an all girl day in Green Bay. I picked up two granddaughters in Tigerton and headed to Green Bay in a torrent of rain. I was apprehensive of the road construction in the Green Bay area. How will I find my way? I wondered, plus I had never been to my other granddaughter’s apartment. There was no need to fear, because I didn’t find a whole lot of construction where I was going, and that flyover ramp wasn’t too intimidating. The GPS told us the turns, and we were there. She was waiting by the door, watching for us. What to do on a rainy day was the next question. So what do females do on a rainy day in a big city? Go shopping, of course. We did that, though only one small purchase was made. We really weren’t looking for anything, just looking, and getting our exercise mall walking. Next stop was lunch at the Pizza Ranch. I had never been there before, but the food was tasty, and it offered much more than pizza. The mashed potatoes and chicken tasted good, too. Plus, you can’t go wrong with ice cream. Back to the apartment, as my granddaughter had to get ready and leave for work. But, the two others and I had mini golf on our minds, so we were on a mission. It took a couple of attempts, and we had to master a couple of roundabouts, but we finally were on the road to the Bay Beach area, where we knew there was a mini golf course. By then the sun was out, and I had fun watching the two granddaughters enjoy trying to get that golf ball to go where it was needed. It was a day filled with fun, and pleasure for me, to share time with three beautiful young ladies. In a couple more years they will be all out on their own, and these grandma days will fade away. That is OK; that is the way it is to be. Children are born, raised, and then go out to find their own way in the world. I hope my grandkids will always feel comfortable in talking with me. I want to be here for them, however I am able. The next big thing for our small community of Tigerton is the Lumberjack Days. I will miss the festivities Saturday, as I will be volunteering at the LCFS Thrift Store in Shawano. But I plan to be in attendance for the big parade Sunday and watching the lumberjack contest in the afternoon. Then in the middle of next week, the Great Shawano County Fair begins. I don’t have as many exhibits this year, no quilts and not as many pictures, but no matter, I love the fair. August might be winding down, and splashes of autumn color can be seen here and there, however, I am blessed in so many ways.
