Dolores R. Westphal

Dolores Ruth Westphal, 87, formerly of Bonduel, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014, in Shawano. Dolores R. Westphal, the daughter of the late Julius and Edna (Krueger) Simon, was born on Dec. 25, 1926, in the town of Angelica. On Sept. 14, 1946, she was married to Alfon Westphal at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel. Together they farmed for nearly 50 years, while raising a family in faith. She was active in Ladies Aid and 4-H, and spent many hours embroidering cherished keepsakes. Even after being bound to a wheelchair, she retained her positive attitude, measured by the effect she had on those around her. To the LWML (Lutheran Women’s Missionary League), she was affectionately known as The Stamp Lady. She was a published poet, and a pillar of faith to those who knew her. Dolores is survived by her children, Sharon (David) Strehlow, of Green Bay, Maxine (Robert) Schmidt, of Green Bay, Andrew (Annette), of Shawano, and Paul (Michelle), of Minneapolis; a daughter-in-law, Rebecca Westphal, of Green Bay; nine grandchildren, Eric, Tami, Rodney, Stacy, Rachel, Matthew, Michael, Brittany and Miranda; fifteen great- grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and in-laws, Iann Simon, Kap (Maurice) Westphal, Marian (Ted) Kupsky and Darlene Westphal. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfon; a daughter, Jane; a son, David; sisters, Ethel, Hazel and Mabel; brothers, Harold and Lester. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, at 3 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, town of Washington, W4496 County Road E, with the Rev. Steven Pockat officiating. Family and friends may call on Saturday at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be held at St. Paul Church Cemetery, town of Washington. The family would like to thank Tender Hearts, Birch Hill Care Center and Theda Care Hospice for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, Dolores requests donations be sent to LWML or the Lutheran Hour Ministries. Zastrow Funeral Home is assisting the family. www.zastrowfuneralhome.com
