Carl “Sonny” E. Zehren, 72, of Shawano, formerly of Clintonville, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014, at the Shawano Medical Center.
“Sonny” was born on Dec. 31, 1941, in the township of Bear Creek, Waupaca County, the son of the late Aloysius and Pearl (Zellmer) Zehren. He later attended Bear Creek Schools. Sonny served three separate terms in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era: from 1961 until 1964, 1966 until 1969 and from 1970 until 1973. After his discharge from the service, Sonny worked at various jobs, including Plexus in Appleton and later at Wal-Mart in Shawano. His hobbies included anything outdoors such as hunting, fishing and camping. He also enjoyed watching the World Wrestling Federation, western and war movies, and appreciated “red heads.” Sonny was a member of the Disabled American Veterans of Shawano and the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include his daughter, Karahlee P. (“Blue”) Zehren, Neenah; grandchildren, Alivya and Mariah Zehren; stepgrandchildren, Aimee, Levi and Kain Zehren; sister-in-law, Barbara Zehren, Bear Creek.
He was preceded in death by his parents; twin daughter, Kelly; sister, Rose Hoekstra; and two brothers, Clarence “Babe” and John in infancy.
A memorial prayer service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, at the Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home & Crematory, Clintonville, with the Rev. Vilas Mazemke officiating.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
Military honors will be conducted at the funeral home by members of the DAV, American Legion Post 63 and VFW Post 664 of Clintonville.
