West De Pere crushes Hawks

Shawano outscored West De Pere 7-0 in the second half of Friday’s Bay Conference high school football game in De Pere. Unfortunately, the Hawks gave up 49 points in the first half and fell 49-7 to the undefeated Phantoms. “We knew West De Pere was going to be tough,” Shawano coach Al Tomow said. “They are always a contender for conference.” West De Pere (4-0, 4-0 Bay Conference) held the Hawks scoreless until the start of the fourth quarter when senior running back Chase Henning scored on a 17-yard touchdown run. Henning finished with 130 yards on 23 carries as the Hawks rushed for 203 yards. “Chase’s confidence is starting to grow and he is beginning to understand the offense,” Tomow said. Shawano relied heavily on the running game because of the rain and wet field conditions, Tomow said. Senior quarterback Cole Huntington completed eight passes for 89 yards. The team’s leading receiver was senior Zack Sousek, who snagged five of Huntington’s passes for 61 yards. Tomow said Shawano (2-2, 1-2 Bay) is making progress. “I am really proud of the way we played tonight,” he said. “We got to play really good football.” No West De Pere statistics were available.
