Adeline M. “Addy” Zander, 87, of Port Edwards, formerly of Shawano, passed away to her heavenly home with her family at her side Saturday evening, Nov. 8, 2014, at the Edgewater Haven Care Center in Port Edwards.
Adeline was born April 2, 1927, in Shawano, a daughter of the late Arnold and Hattie (Mielke) Raasch. She was a graduate of Shawano High School. On Sept. 24, 1949, Adeline was united in marriage to Alfred “Fred” Zander in Shawano. The couple recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
Adeline was a homemaker who enjoyed raising her family. She was an excellent cook. She enjoyed needle point, cross stitch, reading novels, spending time in her flower garden and most importantly, spending time with her family. Adeline just really enjoyed being a mom. She also had a fondness for dogs. She and Fred are former members of St. James Lutheran Church, Shawano.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving and devoted husband, Fred, of Port Edwards; her two daughters, Carrie Zander (Ferlin-“Chip”) McKay, of Rudolph, and Nancy Zander Jaro (Gary) Jaroszewski, of Green Bay; four grandchildren, Matthew Long, Andy (Kirsten) Long, Ryan (Maria) McKay and Erin (Jon Wilson) McKay; eight great-grandchildren, Nick, Aidan, David, William and Jayda Long, Grace, Cameron and Jase McKay. An additional great-grandchild is due in the spring 2015. She is further survived by two nephews, Richard (Cindy) Raasch and Brian Raasch, and many other relatives and friends.
Adeline was preceded in death by her parents, Hattie and Arnold Raasch; two brothers, Vernon Raasch and Andre “Dickie” Raasch; as well as a nephew, Lynn Raasch.
A memorial service for Adeline Zander will be held on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 11 a.m. at Mickelson Funeral Service of Shawano. Pastor Jamie Brei will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Lake Drive Cemetery, town of Wescott, at a later date. Relatives and friends may call at Mickelson Funeral Service on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
