Dean Donald Popelka, 90, of Shawano, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2015, in Shawano. Dean was born in Shawano on April 19, 1925, the son of the late Emil and Margaret (Ainsworth) Popelka. He lived in the Shawano area all his life, owned and operated a dairy farm and owned a saw mill. Dean liked horses and went on pack trips and trail rides in South Dakota, Colorado and Wyoming. He was a member of Church on the Hill United Methodist in Shawano.
Dean is survived by one brother, Lewis (Carol) Popelka, of South Dakota; one sister, Marian Popelka, of Shawano; three nephews, Ronald (Cheryl) Popelka, David (Geri) Popelka and Mike Popelka, all of Shawano; and one niece, Beth (Julian) Perez, of Spain.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 4, 2015, at Church on the Hill in Shawano with the Rev. Allen Christensen officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano. Visitation will be held at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, from 4-7 p.m. and again at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
