This seems to be a time of change. Not only did the calendar turn to December, but we also have had a taste of snow or sleet, or whatever that white stuff was.
Thanksgiving Day came and went, and all that is left of the turkey is probably in the freezer by now. Mine got turned into turkey soup with vegetables and rice, and I admit I was glad to see the end of it.
On Saturday, I spent some time out in my garage trying to find outdoor Christmas decorations, and electric cords to go with them. A little digging and I managed to find the box of extension cords and I was ready to get started decorating.
Of course, at this point of my recovery from my summer surgery, I am still not ready to spend a whole day doing the whole plan, but, at least, I got the strings of lights on the porch railing. It was a good feeling to get that much done, and then I was tired and ready to wait for another day for the next step.
Of course, I expected to be a bit sore after those exertions, and a fall in the garage added to the adventure. I have been very careful in how I place my feet and do all I can not to lose my balance, however, the toe of my shoe caught on something in the garage, and down I went.
On the way down, all I could think was fall right. By that I meant not to try to break my fall, as the last time I tried that I wound up with a torn rotator cuff in my right shoulder. I fell mostly on my left hip and leg, but my shoulder must have gotten some of the jarring, as it has been extra sore lately.
Now those who know me know that the left hip and/or back area have been an area of pain for me this past year or so. It was one of the reasons I had the foot surgery, because it was felt if I walked better, that pain would go away; so far it hasn’t.
As I laid there in the garage a few thoughts flitted through my brain. First of all, I remembered I forgot to put the cell phone in my pocket, so I had to get myself up or stay put. After a minute or two, I was able to propel myself up to a standing position.
The main thought after I got up was, how sore that hip area would get now that I fell on it, but actually it felt less painful for the next 24 hours. The second day brought the soreness back, and then some.
All in all, there was nothing lost in the fall. My left leg has a few purple spots that it didn’t have on Saturday morning, but I am still getting around as well as I did before.
This rainy first week in December hasn’t encouraged me to go out and put up any more decorations, but there are sunny days predicted for later in the week, and even warmer temperatures, so I should be able to get the fall flowers out of the planters and the artificial winter flowers in.
Even my van is changing, as it is in the shop getting the deer damage repaired, and I have the loaner, which is better than walking, but not quite the same.
